Our Story
40 Years of Making Local Businesses Famous
Family owned & operated since 1986. Proudly serving SE Wisconsin communities.
It Started with a Problem
In 1986, Jeff Scott had just received his insurance license and wanted to advertise his new business. He contacted several newspapers and magazines — and quickly discovered that advertising rates were far too expensive for a small business owner just getting started.
When he talked to other local business owners, they all said the same thing: "We'd love to advertise, but we just can't afford it."
Jeff knew there had to be a better way. So in June of 1986, he decided to create his own newspaper — one with rates so affordable that any business could run an ad every single month without breaking the bank. He called it The Bargain Hunter.
From One Edition to Four
What started as a single publication in Racine quickly grew. Jeff expanded to Kenosha, then Oak Creek, Franklin, South Milwaukee, Cudahy, and eventually West Allis and West Milwaukee. Today, the Bargain Hunter publishes four editions every month, delivering 15,000 papers per area — reaching over 60,000 households across SE Wisconsin.
You can find the Bargain Hunter at hundreds of locations — grocery stores, liquor stores, convenience stores, hair salons, barbers, service stations, bowling alleys, bars & taverns, book stores, and many more. Every edition is also available digitally at bhpapers.com.

Our Mission is Simple
The most important tool for a business is the ability to advertise at a reasonable cost. That was true in 1986, and it's still true today. Jeff's goal has never changed: to make your business well known in the community.
For as little as $1.00 per day, you can put your business in front of thousands of local readers who are actively looking for products and services in their neighborhood. No complicated contracts. No hidden fees. Just straightforward, affordable advertising that works.
"I am looking forward to working with you, and my goal is to make your business well known in the community."
— Jeff Scott, Owner & Publisher since 1986
